Mexico City's Yautepec Gallery is excited to announce the concluding half of its cross-border gallery swap with Brooklyn's Live With Animals Gallery, building on the success of their initial Mexico City collaboration in August with artists from Live With Animals and Secret Project Robot.
On Friday, December 11th, Yautepec and Live With Animals will inaugurate a show entitled Asesinos — a provocative (and often disturbing) exploration of violence from several uniquely Mexican perspectives. Featuring the artists Artemio, Ruben Gutierrez, Ximena Labra, Mark Powell, Joaquin Segura, and Marion Sosa, Asesinos is an attempt to frame the complex and
pervasive nature of violence within a contemporary Mexican society that appears to be increasingly defined by it.
From the systemic to the intimate, Asesinos presents violence in Mexico in a manner that is equally magnifying glass and mirror, a combination meant to compel a US audience to rethink its own distance and insulation from the trouble brewing down South.
ABOUT YAUTEPEC
In less than two years — from its beginnings in an abandoned taco preparation facility in Mexico City's Condesa area to its brand new storefront space in the up-and-coming San Rafael neighborhood — YAUTEPEC has hosted 21 exhibitions with over 50 artists from Mexico, the United States, South America, and Europe. It has appeared in such diverse publications as the LA Times, Vice, and The Economist's Intelligent Life, as well as innumerable Mexico City-based magazines like La Tempestad, Tomo, Chilango, Life & Style, Donde Ir, Caras, Spot, and Gatopardo. In a recent gallery spotlight, Mexico's daily newspaper, El Universal, wrote that YAUTEPEC "has become a favorite among contemporary art lovers in [Mexico]."
YAUTEPEC is directed by Daniela Elbahara (b. Monterrey, Mexico, 1978) and Brett W. Schultz (b. Chicago, USA, 1978).
ABOUT LIVE WITH ANIMALS
Live With Animals Gallery was founded in 2005 in Brooklyn, NY. It has since become a staple in the Brooklyn creative community as home to several artist studios, exhibition space for local and international artists, and host to regular performance and musical events. The gallery's mission is to promote art as art, not as industry. It strives to bring creative, fun, experimental, and beautiful art to its community.

La galería Yautepec (México, DF) se enorgullece en presentar la segunda mitad del intercambio de espacios con la galería Live With Animals (Brooklyn, NY), basándose en el éxito de su colaboración inicial llevada a cabo en el mes de agosto en la Ciudad de México con los artistas de artistas Live With Animals y Secret Project Robot.
El viernes 11 de diciembre, Yautepec y Live With Animals inauguran la exposición titulada Asesinos — una provocadora (y a menudo terrorífica) exploración sobre la violencia proveniente de varias perspectivas característicamente mexicanas. Con la participación de los artistas Artemio, Rubén Gutiérrez, Ximena Labra, Mark Powell, Joaquín Segura, y Marion Sosa, Asesinos intenta enmarcar la compleja y penetrante naturaleza de la violencia dentro de la sociedad mexicana contemporánea misma que parece definirla cada vez más.
Desde lo sistemático hasta lo íntimo, Asesinos presenta la violencia en México de la misma forma con la que se ve a través de una lupa y un espejo, una combinación que obliga al público estadounidense a replantear su propia distancia y aislamiento de los problemas que acontecen en el Sur del continente.

En menos de dos años — desde sus inicios en una casa abandonada que antes era utilizada como taquería en la colonia Condesa a su nuevo espacio comercial en la colonia San Rafael — YAUTEPEC ha mostrado 21 exhibiciones con más 50 artistas de México, Estados Unidos, Sudamérica, y Europa. La galería Live With Animals fue fundada en Brooklyn, NY en el 2005. Desde entonces se ha convertido en un clásico dentro de la comunidad creativa de Brooklyn así como en un hogar que hospeda varios estudios de artistas, área para exposiciones, performances y eventos musicales de arte local e internacional. La misión de la galería es promover arte como arte, no como industria. Desde entonces, Live with Animals se ha esforzado por traer arte creativo, lúdico, experimental a su comunidad.
