So, why would anyone want to be given Cash rather than Gift Vouchers as a present? Well, here is my own take on the whole thing: The way I see Gift Vouchers and always will, is basically "Giving somebody money and then limiting them to the Locations, Ways and Time in ...which they can spend it." No, this is not an attack on people who GIVE Gift vouchers and it's not me being ungrateful, because I fully understand that "The Thought Counts" which is the key factor in all this, which is fine. I totally agree that it is a wonderful gesture to someone to buy them something to show that you care about them. However, the point of this group is the USEFULNESS of Gift Vouchers. I typically get Gift Vouchers every Christmas and Birthday and all they do is piss me off, i'm happy that my family and friends thought enough of me to buy me these but seriously what the f*ck is the point? Even as a child I can recall asking my parents if they would swap Gift vouchers with me (which I had been given as a present from others) for money, simply because I found it easier and more straightforward to have money to spend. Ok, so you buy a gift voucher for a somebody, straight away they've typically got two big problems: Firstly, "I don't need anything from there!" To put it simply, they might not want anything in the shop you've just purchased the voucher from and are forced into buying something from this shop which they probably didn't even want in the first place, especially if these vouchers expire! Secondly, "I'm trying to save up money!" being a Student at University I definately know the value of money and what it's like always being hardup on cash. So there is nothing more annoying than if I was to get a huge sum of money in voucher form for some store I rarely go to when I could have used it for living expenses or of course alchohol! :P For me and indeed anyone else i'm sure that cash wins everytime, it does everything Gift Vouchers do and a whole lot more, it's simpler and can be used in any one of a million ways! Its guaranteed to be useful to them no matter what the occasion and will bring happiness! :) --- In conclusion, there seems to be some scarily major stigma attached to Gift Vouchers in that people feel they can't complain about them at all simply because they don't want to seem ungrateful to people in the past who have purchased them as presents for them. Fair enough, but this group is all about how pointless Gift Vouchers themselves actually are for practical application in the real world, which is a point no one can obviously deny...
