Second year 2009 total of $496,000 exceeds 2008 donation of $480,000
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (July 16, 2009) – Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) has donated $496,000 cash directly to Right To Play, the international humanitarian organization. This sum is in addition to the $480,000 donated by MMSCAN almost exactly one year ago, bringing the total amount of cash donated by MMSCAN to Right To Play on behalf of the “Right To Play Challenge” to $976,000 to date.
The “Right To Play Challenge” is a three month long charitable promotion that is tied directly to the sale of new Mitsubishi vehicles. For the second year in a row MMSCAN committed to donating $100 per new vehicle delivered at retail during the months of April, May and June. This year’s sales total for the three months was 4,960 units, up from the 2008 total of 4,797 units, despite the current economic conditions. This resulted in a cash donation of $496,000 for 2009.
“We are extremely pleased with the final results of the 2009 Right To Play Challenge” said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. “To donate $496,000 to our partner Right To Play is a tremendous achievement and a great deal of the credit has to go to our dedicated dealer body and the superb efforts of their hard working salespeople. At its core, the Right To Play Challenge is all about giving back to the community and the world, and everyone at MMSCAN strives to make this donation as large as possible.”
“Right To Play is honoured to be the beneficiary of Mitsubishi’s 2009 campaign to help improve the lives of children in the most disadvantaged areas of the world by giving the gift of sport and play. Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada’s leadership, dedication, and generosity in our partnership is incredible.” said Johann Koss, President and CEO of Right To Play. “On behalf of all of Right To Play, and especially the children in our programs, thank you for your support and believing in our vision to create a healthier and safer world through the power of sport and play.”
Right To Play, the official sport charity of MMSCAN, is a well established international charity whose vision and mandate is to help create a healthier and safer world through the unifying power of sport and play. Operating in 23 countries and widely respected, Right To Play uses sport and play programs to improve health, build life skills, and foster peace for children and communities affected by war, poverty and disease. Mitsubishi Top Teams vie for Rocky Mountain Top Honours
Toronto (May 28, 2009) – The Canadian Rally Championship is moving west to Calgary for the Rocky Mountain Rally this coming weekend and Mitsubishi will have some of its strongest crews enter the second round of the season. North American and twice Canadian champions and winners of the first round earlier in February, Antoine L’Estage and co-driver Nathalie Richard, will take to the roads Friday evening in their 2009 Lancer Evolution. Albertans Zbigniew Szewczyk and Tomasz Karzynski will follow in a Group 5 Ralliart model while returning Production champions, brothers Jan and Jody Zedril from Manitoba are now entering the Group 2 class. These three teams are looking for an outright victory, a podium finish and a class win.

Synchro Autosport from Blainville, Quebec is also fielding a couple of Evolution 8 RSs with the usual Losier father and son crews. First, Réjean with codriver Maxime, then Simon, the 2008 Mitsubishi Cup winner, will pair up with François Morin. Finally, Mike Elhard and Thomas Chichak will vie for top rookie title in a first generation Evolution.
"We were very pleased with Antoine L’Estage taking a first win with the new Evolution this winter”, stated Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. “We hope he repeats this feat again in the Rockies. But other Mitsubishi crews are also very deserving and we hope our Rally Program helps them in their search for titles in their own classes. The standings for the Mitsubishi Cup show Antoine leading but we know it is a long season and Andrew and the Losier family will push hard at every event.”
Event profile: Rocky Mountain Rally
After the usual Friday afternoon procedures before the official start, Antoine L’Estage will head out first on the road for a few spectator stages before the cars enter Parc fermé for night. Saturday morning will see the southern trek to the Porcupine Hills where most of the event will be held. This area in the past has offered every possible scenario, from hot and dusty roads to heavy snow. At the end of the long 12-hour day, teams will gather in Pincher Creek for the podium ceremony. TORONTO, (Ontario) February, 11, 2009 - The Mitsubishi Super-All-Wheel Control technology, available on the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, was declared the 2009 Best New Technology by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The award was announced today during a press conference that opened the Canadian International AutoShow media day in Toronto.
"The AJAC Best New Technology award, presented by Shell Canada, was established to allow a group of technical writers to identify new and innovative technologies of significant benefit to the consumer - so much so, that it is likely to be emulated by other manufacturers", explained Canadian Car of the Year and Technology Award chairman Richard Russell. "Past winners include everything from run-flat tires to various hybrid and suspension technologies. The significance of the Best New Technology award has been growing steadily over the past few years as has the degree of rigor to which entries are submitted."
The winner was chosen from a list of seven entries, judged by a panel of AJAC members with specific technical qualifications who regularly report on industry engineering and technical trends.
Mr. Koji Soga, President and CEO, Mitsubishi Motors Sales of Canada Inc., commented, "Mitsubishi is a company driven to practical engineering solutions. Solutions that have a direct consumer benefit. And the Super All Wheel Control system used on the Lancer Evolution is a perfect example. Here we have a technology that enables the ultimate in driver control, in all weather conditions, which makes the vehicle both safer and more enjoyable to drive."
AJAC's annual Canadian Car of the Year awards program was created in 1985 with the purpose of providing consumers with sound, comparative information on vehicles that are new to the market.
For that reason, the vote results that determined today's winners are available to consumers as a resource buying guide on the AJAC web site. Also available are the comparative test data derived from the journalists' extensive five day evaluation of over 160 new vehicles in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario in October. This annual event is known in the industry as "TestFest". Shell Canada is the official fuel supplier of the event.
The rigorous TestFest evaluation program includes real world driving on public roads - exactly where consumers drive so that the test and vote results posted to the AJAC web site are directly relevant to potential car and truck buyers.
Still looking to buy a 2008, 2007, or even a 2006 vehicle? AJAC archives the comparative test data from previous years on its web site.
Photos from today's award announcements, the October 24th category winners, and the TestFest evaluation event, are available for print and broadcast media under <Canadian Car of the Year< Photo Gallery< on the AJAC web site.
In addition, our AJAC journalists who evaluated the brand new models at TestFest are available across Canada for interviews to talk about the vote results and comparative data. Media are invited to visit the AJAC web site and log-in under "Ask An Expert", then choose the "Media" link to access interview information once validation has occurred.
