Congress requests GAO study on horse welfare’
There are many unanswered questions about how the closure of horse processing facilities has affected horse welfare, especially in regard to the treatment and numbers of unwanted horses. There needs to be better legislation addressing the care, of unwanted horses and educati ...on and outreach for current and new horse owners to own responsibly. The current proposed bill, H.R. 503/ S. 727 the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2009, does not address the welfare of unwanted horses. Hopefully, this study will show Congress the need for real action.
