Hi Anthony and all,
I'm thinking that this year, the Tapir Preservation Fund may be auctioning a number of unique tapir items to raise funds, then choose a project on World Tapir Day to receive the funds. The idea is still in the works and suggestions are welcome. I expect to start some auctions in January. We may ask ...the people who have donated by making purchases to help choose which project or projects receive funding. Perhaps we can combine this with a larger WTD effort.

Sheryl Todd The link below is a recap of the Tapir Preservation Fund's incoming contributions and outgoing donations since 2006. Thanks to all who have helped!

World Tapir Day is excited about the number of people who have responded to the request for assistance - from Peru to Hong Kong to the UK (and places in between). If you'd like to be part of it (no matter how small), please let us know!

World Tapir Day is looking for people to be involved with 2010 World Tapir Day. If you'd like to be part of it, please send an email to <2010worldtapirday@googlemail.com>.

World Tapir Day
Not that it is at all related to our favourite species (other than in name), it is still interesting nonetheless:

SCIENTISTS have discovered the fossils of an ancient marsupial lion that lived in the Territory eight million years ago.

Emily Bailey I got a stuffed Malayan Tapir at the Colchest zoo (Near London) I sleep with it every night :)

Sheryl Todd I thoght the second fan video was interesting. I used to spray my tapir, Stanley, with a hose, too. He would always open his mouth like this tapir and angle himself to get the water into his mouth. I saw him do that with rain also. Newquay Zoo (?) in England also reported that their tapirs would open their mouths so th ...e running water in an exhibit would go into their mouths. I've never read anything else about this behavior. Have any of you noticed it?

Laura Yablon This is 'George', the Brazilian Tapir at the San Antonio Zoo. He will be 39 on October 31st

Sheryl Todd We have only 10 of these resin tapirs made by Sergio Sandoval in Colombia, and probably will not be able to get more for reasons described in the blog post. Your purchase helps support tapir conservation. Read about these unique and collectible mountain tapirs!
