Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery
Opening Reception FRIDAY, December 4, 7-10PM with music by DJ Sean Doe!
Every now and then you just gotta let go. This month we did just that and turned the Rotofugi Gallery reigns over to the good folks at Black Market Caviar, a new screenprinting and clothing boutique that just happens to be moving in a few doors down ... from us on Chicago Avenue (1945 W).
Marco Hafid and the crew at BMC did a great job curating a diverse and thought provoking show for us. Hafid’s own graphic (and somewhat disturbing) screenprints set the tone for a show of contrasts...beauty vs. destruction, commercialism vs. art....and more.
The abstract wildness of San Francisco-based John Felix Arnold III’s drawings and prints shake with energy. The insanely detailed, yet strikingly graphic drawings (drawn entirely with tiny micron pens…look at that texture) by another Bay Area artist, D Young V, then draw you close.
Large wood cutouts by Chicago artist Elisa Harkins (aka Pooper) bring a touch of nature, whimsy and mysticism to the exhibit. And the street-smart and clever designs of another Chicago artist, Brandon Breaux, hint at a world overrun with advertising and look like throwaway transit posters from a different, stranger and cooler, era.
Finally, in a nod to the digital age, monoprints by New York based Chris Huber bring us full circle, exploding with color and sending us back out to the street with open eyes.
We’re proud to be showing these exciting works and hope you enjoy the exhibit....and of course, credit to BMC for a job well done!
Our gallery is open every Saturday from noon until 4pm, and can be opened upon request at almost any time by asking at our toy store next door! Thanks!

We hope you're enjoying a day with family and friends, too much food and maybe a nap or two. We're extremely lucky and yes, thankful, to count a lot of our loyal customers as friends too. Here's wishing the best for all of you! ...

Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery
The weather may be turning cold on us, but the gallery is still hot! We've got two new exhibits opening up soon and, as usual, we are really excited and honored to be showing some fantastic work.
First up is Seattle-based Jesse LeDoux. Jesse's got a great almost old-school style that we just can't get enough of. Amazing ... use of color and line, beautiful contrast and a touch of humor really set Jesse's drawings apart from the crowd. Toy collectors probably know Jesse best for his series "Critter Splitters" produced a few years back by Kidrobot...still some of our favorite blind boxes ever!
Chicago-based Veggiesomething is not only a talented character designer, he's a pretty awesome painter and graphic artist as well...and just happens to be one of our favorite people ever. Look for all kinds of madness (prints and paintings...maybe even some plush) from VGS, who is probably best known in the toy world for his "House of Liu" line produced by Hong Kong's Crazy Label.
It's probably worth mentioning, as well, that this is going to be one of those shows, we think, that will be not only budget friendly, but will feature a lot of stuff that would make great holiday gifts...*wink wink* ... thanks!
Opening is Friday, November 13 from 7pm until 10pm with music by the always entertaining Genghiswon. Both Jesse and Veggiesomething will be in attendance.
Looking forward to seeing lots of familiar and not-so-familiar faces!
If you're interested in purchasing work from this exhibit please sign up for our Gallery Previews email list here:

Rotofugi Designer Toy Store & Gallery
Two new exhibits in our gallery will be opening Friday, October 16, 7pm-10pm. We've got new works by both Martin Ontiveros (Portland) and Jeremy Tinder (Chicago).
Toy buyers may know Martin from his "Ojo Rojo" figure collaboration with Gargamel and/or his awesome re-invention of Booska for Max Toy Company...this is Mar ...tin's first exhibit in our gallery though he did participate in the original Toy Karma exhibit back in September 2007.
Jeremy is following up a hugely successful March 2008 exhibit in our gallery, and is also quite well known as a comic book artist and instructor at Chicago's prestigious School of the Art Institute.
Another don't-miss exhibit, IMHO. This should be good!
Music at the opening by the always awesome DJ Sean Doe!
