I just came across an interesting tidbit, another volume to add to Joseph's extensive, imaginary library. In the old Russian Orthdox saints' calendars (used primarily for naming children christened on each day of the year), called the mesyatzeslov, are two very interesting male names of ancient saints- Alma and Ammon (as well as Ammun). There still is no English translation of this work.
Nice second witness, I think.

Good one, Allen. Just found this while looking for threads to *bump* to get rid of the troubled Brother Carson. ;)

Hmm..Interesting that you find this interesting. Are you suggesting that because the names Alma and Ammon are found in the Russian lexicon implies that Joseph Smith copied them into the Book of Mormon?

No, I doubt very much if Allen is implying that at all. In fact when I read it I interpreted it as exactly the opposite, ie, that the Russian Orthodox was in fact another witness of the existence of Alma and Ammon as "ancient saints" and supported the Book of Mormon and its divine origins.
I may be wrong but I very much doubt that Joseph Smith would have had access to a Russian lexicon.

Maybe that's a bit of humour that's wheezing past my head! If it is, my excuse is - it's been a long day at work. I blame the traffic on the roads;)

I am sure Allen was just adding a touch of sarcasm to his post. Allen is one of an elite group of brothers who do a great job responding to critics of our faith. I am sure he will pop in when he gets his notification of all these new posts and confirm this.
You are new to the boards so you wont be up on the who's who in the LDS facebook world so I wouldnt worry too much about it! ;)

Josie, thanks for the reassuring words but quite honestly, I am not worried at all. I really need to avoid motorways and make more use airplanes!

Josie is right, that was a bit of sarcasm, if you'll note the word imaginary.
My point in posting this is that here are the names Alma and Ammon, in a source Joseph could not know about, a source which was not found in the USA, a source which has yet to be translated into English.

Thanks, Allen but Josie already placated my humourless self :) I actually gave a talk this Sunday on the Book of Mormon. Will I be right in thinking that perhaps, the vast majority of the critics of the Book of Mormon have never studied the book, logically considered the possibility of an uneducated boy in the early 19th Century without the aid of research capacities available today, cooking up a book such as the Book of Mormon.
Even if Joseph Smith had made this up (which I know he did not), surely he must be considered as one of the greatest geniuses of all time!
